Tiling a plane with polygons differs from other floor-planning programs in several ways. With most programs, your floor plan looks good only if you use the correct size. If you use too large or too small of a polygon, the plan will look bad or even go crazy. But Tiling with Regular Polygons looks good even for a large number of polygons. The program supports complete custom shapes, and offers a wide range of polygon types. With Tiling with Regular Polygons, you can quickly create planar floor-plans with many different kinds of polygons. Creating the Tiling: To create the plan view using the in-program floor-planer: Select the floorplan surface, then press the Create button in the main window. You can also use a planar surface or image to create a floor plan. Creating the floor plan with multiple shapes using the in-program floor planer: Use the draw tool in the main window to move shapes with a set of buttons, or press the Select button and use the Top, Down, Left or Right arrow keys to move a shape. Click on the double-sized button to specify the minimum distance between shapes to ensure that the generated floor plan is clear. The program now displays the Tiled view with the surface you created as your floor plan. Choose a polygon shape using the menu button in the tool bar. This menu button shows the list of available polygons in the program. Polygon shapes are available for general shapes (circle, polygon, star, cross) and specialized shapes (ellipse, circle polygon, star polygon, cross polygon). Creating the Multi-shape Plan view: You can use the polygon frame tool to select the top left corner of the plan, then move around the plan with the arrow keys or the Move, Pivot, Rotate or Scale buttons. *** Version 1.0 *** WHAT IS TILINGS WITH REGULAR POLYGONS? Tilings with Regular Polygons is a tool that allows you to generate tessellations and print them without any limitation. Any polygon (polygons with more than four sides are not supported) can be used, as long as it is regular (without torsion or skew) and convex. This tool has been created for workshops where you want to show potential clients how tiling with polygons works or for home or hobbyist projects where you can apply tiling to a model. You can even modify the generated model before printing it (see section “Tiling Without Text”) or add extra polygons (see section “Adding Extra Polygons”). The tessellation can be printed on paper (see section “Printing the Tessellation”) or on 3D printers (see section “Printing the Tessellation”). A tessellation is basically a model in which each polygon is glued to the other using line-pieces and flat surfaces (see sections “Line-pieces” and “Flat Surfaces”), the polygons are printed in order and there are no interior vertices (that is, there are no vertices in the middle of the polygons). The software includes an easy to use graphics interface where you can generate polygons and modify them freely and a Python script able to generate the tessellation by checking the constraints and creating the basic features.
